Oral Conscious Sedation
If you experience moderate to severe dental anxiety or are preparing for a complex procedure, our team will likely recommend oral conscious sedation. With the help of a prescribed pill, you will experience greater relaxation once you are in the treatment chair. You will take the medication at a designated time before your appointment so that once we are ready to begin, you will feel no pain or anxiety whatsoever. This will allow you to remain calm while our team administers more efficient care. Since the effects of the sedation will take time to wear off, you will need to have someone drive you home after your appointment.
Nitrous Oxide Sedation
Slight nervousness is common when visiting the dentist, so if you need something to help curb your anxiety or just “take the edge off,” we can provide nitrous oxide. This easy-to-use and completely safe mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen creates a calming effect as well as a warming sensation so that you experience no issues throughout your appointment. One of the reasons we often recommend nitrous oxide is that its effects wear off quickly, so you can return to your normal activities after treatment.
IV Sedation
When multiple services are required or extreme dental anxiety keeps you from pursuing essential dental care, we will suggest IV sedation. Delivered through an IV that is placed in the back of your hand or arm, the medicine quickly enters your bloodstream to help you become more relaxed in less time. You may doze off during your appointment, but our team will be able to wake you up easily if we need you to respond to a question. If you’re worried about remembering anything from your visit, don’t be, as IV sedation can produce temporary amnesia. Just like oral conscious sedation, though, you will need someone to escort you home to ensure your safety.
